Investigative Accountant

Do you have forensic accounting experience? Do you have securities experience? Do you have investigative experience? The Division of Securities within the Utah Department of Commerce has an Investigative Accountant position open now. You will conduct financial analysis and investigate allegations of individuals and businesses involved in securities fraud violations in the State of Utah.

Salary: $28.00 - $38.36 Hourly
 
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
  • Conducting a variety of forensic accounting analyses of bank statements, brokerage firm records, and other financial documents to determine the use of funds by individuals and businesses in alleged securities violations.
  • Conducting investigations into allegations of inappropriate activities with respect to the Utah Uniform Securities Act consisting of fraud violations, rule infractions, etc.
  • Acting as an expert witness, providing testimony in criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings. 
  • Maintaining and updating accounting records for the Division's Investor Education Fund. 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Our ideal candidate will have:
  • Securities industry experience (brokerage firm background).
  • Investigative experience; including undercover work and interviewing skills.
  • The ability to comfortably testify in court.
  • A willingness to take direction.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as needed.
 
PREFERENCES 
  • Strong preference for applicants with a Master's degree in accounting, is a licensed CPA, and has knowledge of forensic accounting.
