Clinical Research Data Analyst II - Cardiology Research

Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is looking to hire a  part-time Clinical Research Data Analyst  to directly support a busy and high-performing cardiology research program. The Data Analyst work both independently and as part of a team on clinical data analysis and data management.
The Data Analyst will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Celina Yong, Director of Interventional Cardiology at the Palo Alto VA Medical Center and an Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford University. The Data Analyst will assist Dr. Yong in her scientific writing, project submission, and national research dissemination work. 
This is a part-time position, offering 20 hours a week, competitive hourly compensation, sick pay, 401(k) with a fully vested 6% company match and 3% profit share, wellness program, commuter benefits, and professional development training.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES OF A CLINICAL RESEARCH DATA ANALYST
The Clinical Research Data Analyst will spend majority of the time on data management and analysis and about 20% of the time supporting Principal Investigator's research operation.
The Data Analyst is responsible to perform statistical analyses of large datasets (including VA electronic health records) for health outcomes and health services research questions.
Here are other related job functions:
  • Identify, validate, and resolve database and analysis issues
  • Propose and perform appropriate statistical analysis methods to answer clinical and research questions
  • Evaluate and interpret collected clinical data
  • Manage the database for internal and external audits and prepare summary reports
  • Create tables/figures and written presentation of data information
The Data Analyst will work directly with Dr. Yong and other members of the research team to support scientific writing and project submission by performing maintenance of supporting documentation for projects including bibliographies. The Data Analyst will also conduct internet research to support scientific publications and draft sections of proposals, publications, and presentations.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CLINICAL RESEARCH DATA ANALYST
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in statistics or a related field
  • 2 or more years of related data analysis experience
  • Must have college-level statistics coursework and ability to use one or more statistical packages: SAS, R, STATA, SPSS
  • Work well both independently and in a collaboration with a team
  • Ability to communicate data requirements, as well as limitations, to team members
  • Proficiency with MS Office and database applications
  • Capability to produce reference documents and to outline work processes in writing
  • Exceptional scientific writing skills.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in statistics or a related field
  • Prior experience with statistical analysis of VA-data
  • Prior experience working with other non-VA large datasets
  • Prior experience designing and performing statistical analyses for health outcomes and/or health services research
  • Experience with research protocols, regulatory requirements of governing bodies, HIPAA and FDA compliance
  • Expertise in PubMed research, Data management and analysis, a bibliography or reference program (e.g., Endnote, Mendeley)
Physical Demands: Sitting in front of a computer for long periods of time, repetitive movement, occasional walking and standing for extended periods of time.
Environmental Conditions: Exposure to clinical and office environments.
