The Associate Consultant will work under project managers and with members of a close-knit project team, performing complex financial and economic analyses and cost evaluations related to municipal governmental services such as water, wastewater, solid waste, and stormwater utilities. With proper training and mentorship, this individual will grow to be a critical member of the team, performing budget analysis, long-range financial planning, utility cost allocation and rate-setting, and management consulting services for clients across the country.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support senior staff in the development and execution of project work
- Develop Excel-based financial models to support deep analysis of a variety of financial and management projects related to utility financial planning rate setting. This includes projecting utility revenues and expenditures, developing revenue requirements, cost allocation and rate and fee design to support our client’s operations.
- Research, data mine aggregate, and validate project data from multiple sources.
- Produce technical work products that are clear and concise.
- Maintain effective, professional attributes while interacting with clients & colleagues.
- Participate in the preparation of proposals and presentations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (mathematics, finance, engineering, economics, accounting, or other related fields)
- Demonstrated proficiency in using MS Office applications of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Experience analyzing large data sets
- Excellent written skills including reporting of analytical results
- Excellent oral communication skills including presenting analytical results to clients or stakeholders
- Ability to solve complex problems through the formulation of possible solutions, testing solutions, and confirming solutions deliver desired outcomes
- Diligent, enthusiastic, and team-player attitude
- Ability to work within a small team that may be spread across multiple states
- Ability to work independently on specific assignments once direction is provided
- Willing and able to travel overnight as needed
Preferences:
- Master’s degree (MBA, CPA, or similar)
- Modeling proficiency and experience MS Excel, Word, Power Point. Experience with relational databases is a plus.
- Experience and/or interest in the state and local governmental water, wastewater, and stormwater utility industries
