School Secretary/Health Technician-Bamford Elementary

 
 
Pay Range: School Secretary: $16.14-$19.37 based on qualifications and experience*
          Health Technician: $14.41-$17.29 based on qualifications and experience*
  
Hours/day: Total: 8hrs (5/hrs. per day school secretary and 3/hrs. per day health technician) 
 
Work calendar days: 186
 
Duration of position: Ongoing

Additional information:
*Pay rates/salary is determined based on qualifications and experience relevant to the job description requirements. Full pay range may be found on the appropriate salary schedule. Employees hired new into a position are rarely qualified to receive maximum of the pay range.

  • For those selected to move on, the second round of interviews will be either in-person following COVID guidelines or via Teams.
 
This process could take up to two weeks, so thank you in advance for your patience. If you are selected for a position at Bamford, you will finish the semester in your current position. You will also be meeting as a team with Alissa to begin the work that needs to be done to open Bamford. This will be outside of contract time and you will be compensated for this time during this spring semester.

School Secretary (Elementary)
SUMMARY:
Responsible for performing secretarial and administrative duties for an elementary school administrator, office, or program, including receiving calls and visitors, producing correspondence, entering data, providing student health care, maintaining records and files, monitoring attendance, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each
essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Description of Job Tasks
1. Receive calls, greet visitors, and answer inquiries. Direct calls and visitors to the appropriate person as necessary. Assist volunteers with check-in procedure and/or problems.
2. Enter data into the student information system. Maintain student records, including grades, transcripts, health, attendance, athletics, etc. Enroll and withdraw students in the student information system. Monitor daily student attendance and contact parents if excused absence is not reported.
3. Type correspondence, newsletters, forms, and memos. Assist in the production of school and program materials.
4. Provide first aid and administer student medications, adhering to District and state procedures, as needed.
5. Maintain ongoing office supplies, textbook, and materials inventory.
6. Process purchase orders, warehouse orders, restricted checks, and maintain petty cash.
7. Schedule meetings, appointments, and building use.
8. Sort and distribute mail and process mass mailings.
9. Attend work and arrive in a timely manner.
10. Arrange for student, staff, and teacher transportation as needed.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Specialized training beyond high school preferred
• Two to three years of related experience
• Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
• Successful completion of First Aid and CPR, and Administering Medication in a School Setting (if not currently
certified, successful completion must be done at earliest convenience after hire)
• Criminal background check required for hire
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• English language skills
• Interpersonal relations skills
• Mathematical skills including basic calculations and application of basic math concepts
• Strong personal computer and keyboarding skills
• Bilingual oral and written communication skills may be required or preferred
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, use time efficiently, demonstrate attention to detail, follow

• Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, E-mail, etc.

Health Technician 
SUMMARY:
Responsible for coordinating and collaborating with the school nurse for providing health care/first aid, medications, and/or assistance with medical procedures to students. Maintain and compile student health records, files, and database and healthrelated reports and documents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Description of Job Tasks
1. Evaluate and attend to students visiting the health office; provide health care and/or first aid, administer medications, adhering to District and state procedures, and perform delegated medical procedures. Contact parents as needed.
2. Maintain health office records, including HCAP, immunization, medication, vision and hearing, cumulative health, and accident and injury records.
3. Enter data into the computerized health office log to document student visits to the health office.
4. Coordinate student health needs between teacher, nurses, and parents.
5. Gather data and prepare reports.
6. Maintain the health office cleanliness, and take inventory and order health office supplies and equipment as needed.
7. Prepare medications for field trips.
8. Assist in maintaining health records, coordinating screenings, and providing health services to pre-K students as needed in elementary schools.
9. Type correspondence, newsletters, forms, and memos.
10. Attend work and arrive in a timely manner.
11. Attend required training classes and District Health Technician meetings. Complete online professional development training as required.
12. Assist in setting up and notifying parents of immunization clinics when needed.
13. Assist with medication preparations for school-sponsored trips.
14. Conduct student vision and hearing screenings.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
 High school diploma or equivalent
 One year of related experience
 Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable
