R&D Software Engineer - Remote Sensing (Early/Mid-Career)

We are seeking a motivated software developer to join a multidisciplinary team providing solutions to advance space situational awareness and space control. The successful applicant will employ the scientific method and systems-level thinking to plan and execute the implementation of solutions in a variety of areas within computer science and software development. The successful candidate will enjoy collaborating in an innovating environment to architect, design, develop, test, and deploy advanced software solutions.
On any given day, the selected candidate may be called on to:
  • Work on a team to develop software solutions to solve a range of the most complicated remote sensing problems, including the capture, processing, exploitation, visualization and distribution of real-time sensor data
  • Work collaboratively with architects, developers, technical engineering leads, customers, and end users to collect requirements, design solutions, and deliver software applications

Qualifications We Require

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Astrodynamics, or a related field
  • Experience in software design, engineering, and development skills, including familiarity with modern software development practices and tools
  • Strong, demonstrated foundation in programming/software development
  • Can obtain a DOE Q/SCI clearance

Qualifications We Desire

A subset of the following is expected:
  • Experience with remote sensing systems
  • Experience with space domain awareness, space protection, or space control
  • Experience with modeling and simulation of space-based systems and/or architectures
  • Experience with testing and validation frameworks
  • Experience with Cloud Computing Services (AWS, Open Stack, Azure)
  • Experience with Container Technologies (e.g. Docker, Mesos, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Experience with automation, orchestration, and continuous integration tools (puppet, ansible, docker, GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.)
  • Experience in machine learning, data visualization, and/or data processing
  • Experience with electro-optical (EO)/Infrared (IR), radar, and image processing
  • Experience with object-oriented software frameworks and architecture development
  • Experience creating and deploying secure architectures to meet cybersecurity and information assurance requirements
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience and interest in identifying, developing, and realizing new project opportunities
  • Current DOE clearance

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship.
