Internships in the cultural resources fields (architecture, history, museum studies, archeology, other)

The National Council for Preservation Education (NPCE) is now accepting applications to its Internship Program until the deadline of Monday, February 22, at midnight. Current undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates, are eligible to apply for these paid internships for Summer ‘21. Visit https://preservenet.org/ncpe-internships/ for instructions on how to apply, eligibility, a searchable a list of internship positions, and the online application.

Details: There are almost 50 positions available, each at a different National Park, unit of the National Park Service or at a Federal office/agency. The internships range in length from 10 to 30 weeks. Unless otherwise noted, the hourly pay is $15.00. Travel to the site and housing during the internship are usually the responsibility of the intern but there are some positions that include free or cheap housing, a housing/commuting stipend. Some positions are remote or partly remote; view the job descriptions for details.

Qualifications: We seek academically promising students (2.75+ GPA) with coursework and/or experience (volunteer and/or paid) in the fields of history, museum studies, architecture, communication, archeology, conservation, and allied fields. There’s something here for a wide range of interests in the cultural resources fields: the preservation of battlefield parks near Richmond, VA; graffiti mitigation of historic structures at Joshua Tree National Park in southern California; preservation and curation of the Buffalo Soldiers Collection at Ft. Davis, TX and the Presidential Collection at Harry S Truman National Historic Site in Independence, MO; social media intern at the National Register of Historic Places in Washington, D.C.; and masonry conservation at Ft. Pitkens at the Gulf Breeze National Seashore in Pensacola, FL; and more.

Follow up, interviews, and hiring are done by the on-site supervisor at the respective internship sites.
