Temporary Biologist I #60012811

**This is a temporary position expected to last 11 months from start date**

Location: Valentine/Niobrara, Nebraska 

Examples of Work
Under direction and supervision of Carnivore Program Manager, assist with and carry out mountain lion research (genetic surveys utilizing scat detector dogs, camera trap surveys, assist with trapping/radio-collaring, identification of prey species), and other data collection efforts. Assist or coordinate activities and projects within the section or division as assigned. 

Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, fish or wildlife management or closely related field of biological science or equivalent experience. 

PREFERRED: one year related field experience. 

OTHER: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation required. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of wildlife management principles, goals and objectives, particularly those applicable to carnivores. Experience trapping, using game cameras, and working outdoors is preferred. Ability to hike long distances in steep terrain and inclement weather is required. 

Ability to communicate effectively with landowners/ranchers, agency staff, and to work with little supervision is required. Overnight travel to other areas within the state is required. Written and computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel), ability to operate handheld GPS units, VHF telemetry, chainsaws, 4X4 vehicles/trailers, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV's), and certification in chemical immobilization is highly desirable.
