Student Trainee (Public Affairs)

Position Title: Student Trainee (Public Affairs)

Job Series: Information and Arts (1099)

Pay Grade: GS-03

Annual Salary: $31,401 to $40,819 (plus 2.86% cost of living allowance) 

Geographic Location: Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska

Reimbursement for Relocation Expenses: No

Telework Eligible: Yes, as determined by agency policy

Appointment Type: Temporary internship not to exceed Sept. 30, 2021

Work Schedule: Full-time from Monday through Friday during the summer or while on school breaks. When classes are in session, work hours are flexible and can be performed on a part-time basis depending on school schedule.

Eligibility: Must be a U.S. citizen

Qualifications: Must have completed one full academic year of post-high school study. At the undergraduate level, a year of education is comparable to 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours. Also must be working toward a bachelor's or higher-level degree in a Public Relations, Journalism, English, Creative Writing, Digital Media, Advertising/Marketing or Mass Communications program.

Job Responsibilities: In this training and development position, the intern will provide public affairs services under the guidance and supervision of experienced staff members. The student will perform tasks to learn the basic methods, procedures and techniques of the public affairs function. Assignments will involve writing, editing, photography, videography, social media and websites.
