Parks and Recreation Worker - Park Counter

St. Paul Parks and Recreation is looking to hire up to 20 people as Park Counters. The position is temporary, part time work from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. This position will be conducting Park Counts. This is an annual process required by the Metropolitan Council in order to document visitation to our regional parks. 

The Met Council will request counts at specific park locations, on days and times to be determined. Parks and Recreation hires qualified candidates to meet the count activity. No experience is necessary, and all training and materials will be provided.

The primary job responsibilities are: 
  • Arrive to assigned regional park locations at required time slot;
  • Ensure there is a clear view of the count area;
  • Bring any indicted required materials to the job assignment;
  • Conduct counts as directed and record the data;
  • Upload or submit tally sheet information to Park Count Coordinator;
  • Must be able to attend required training (date/time/location to be determined);
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from a variety of regional park sites;
  • Must know how to communicate via e-mail and instant messaging via mobile devices;
  • Must demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with park visitors.
Work assignments are 7 days a week between 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., and occur in 2-hour shifts. Candidates are allowed/encouraged to take corresponding back-to-back shifts or multiple shifts in a day. Candidates will be required to count the number of visitors entering the regional park at that specific site.

 Requirements:Candidates need to be at least 18 years old and have reliable transportation. 

Flexible availability is required, and flexible availability on holidays (July 4, Memorial Day, Labor Day) is preferred.
