Graduate Communications Intern Feynman Center for Innovation

The Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) Program is a year-round educational program that provides students with relevant research experience while pursuing a graduate degree. Students are able to work with professionals in a variety of career fields while using state-of-the-art equipment, technology and instrumentation. In some cases, students can arrange to conduct masters or doctoral thesis research at the Laboratory. Students are eligible to work during the summer and/or academic year.
The Richard P. Feynman Center for Innovation (FCI) advances The Laboratory’s science and technology innovation capacity by nurturing and sustaining public and private partnerships, transitioning technologies to market for commercial implementation, and fostering a stronger New Mexico regional economy.
 
FCI through the Technology Engagement and Entrepreneurship team drives internal and regional innovation through:
  • Educating the next generation of innovators to develop business models around their scientific breakthroughs;
  • Driving new innovation into New Mexico companies working on products that can enhance key design and manufacturing capabilities;
  • Developing mechanisms for more customization of entrepreneurial activities to maintain or increase start-ups based on LANL technologies.
Reporting to the Team Lead for Technology Engagement and Entrepreneurship, the Regional Technology Commercialization Graduate Research Assistant will be responsible for helping develop communication material across a variety of platforms and customer segments.
     
Specific job responsibilities include:
 
  • Assist in analyzing current and emerging markets for commercialization of LANL technologies through research, networking, and information portals to develop technology market sheets (Technology Snapshots). Technology Snapshots are used for promoting Laboratory intellectual property available for licensing and highlighting Laboratory capabilities;
  • Assist in conducting market research on national best practices for entrepreneurial and high-tech economic development programs and initiatives to inform communication materials that speak to targeted customer segments;
  • Collaborate with LANL researchers and FCI staff to identify potential market applications for LANL technologies and assist with developing communication materials to promote potential technology transition activities;
  • Assist in analyzing technology transition metrics and data to evaluate trends and opportunities to promote LANL technology and capabilities, as well as help FCI assess the impact of key programs and technology transition activities;
  • Develop content and messaging for external and internal websites and social media platforms;
  • Produce written communication related to commercialization at LANL;
  • Support events and programs sponsored by FCI.
