Amusement Park Kitchen Manager Summer Intern

Adventureland safely and successfully opened for our 2020 season and will be open for our 2021 season.
 
Description:
If you want to learn people skills, develop and showcase leadership skills, and do it in the most exciting place possible, this is the opportunity for you! This position offers the most unique, fun yet demanding, and rewarding atmosphere in which a student could spend their summer. This is a position will oversee a team of thirty employees and four service areas while coordinating operations with three Department Directors to execute all aspects of operations.  A full business cycle will be witnessed as the student will have the opportunity to be part of the preparation, execution, and conclusion of a full park season. Leadership, communication, and management skills will be developed through extensive contact with guests, employees, and department heads.
 
Duration:
May 2021–August 2021. Weekends only April-May, full time between Spring semester and Fall semester, optional weekends-only after Fall semester begins. Flexible dates are available. 
 
Specific duties:
• Participate in all aspects of food preparation and sales during peak times
• Work out of two fully-equipped prep kitchens, serving over 100,000 during the summer
• Executive Chef mentoring by Iowa Culinary Institute alumnus
• Help develop and execute multi-course/VIP menus
• Cater group meals up to 2,500 guests
• Develop and execute daily staff meal for up to 400 members
• Prepare meals for high-profile national acts, such as Shaggy and Hanson
• Full-time positions available at end of season
• Learn operations of all areas of Foods department
• Work to train, correct, and motivate employees
• Product ordering, rotation, and maintenance of appropriate inventory levels
• Prepare and scale recipes to serve any sized group
• Regulatory compliance and standards enforcement, including Labor Department regulations and food safety practices
• Enforce appearance, performance, and operational standards
• Team building by setting proper example, tone, and atmosphere
 
Qualifications:
• Ability to work in fast paced environment and handle stress
• Fast, intuitive learner
• Demonstrated food prep and cooking skills
• Excellent listening skills
• Be on feet for long periods;
• Independent, resourceful worker
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Able to work weekends and holidays
• Lift and carry up to 50lbs

Details:
• $10.00-$15.00/hour
• Generous season-end bonus program
• 40-50 hours a week during park season, no time-and-a-half
• Ability to work 50+ hours if desired
• Students selected for this position will work 450-550 hours during the spring and summer
