Purchasing Summer Intern – Unpaid

Summary of Position:
The intern will assist with purchasing projects as assigned by the Acting Purchasing Director, focusing on compliance, contracts, and vendor relationships. Potential projects include updating the supplier database in the City’s financial management system; assisting the Purchasing Team with full range of solicitation and award processes, perform maintenance of contractor records, etc.

Essential job functions:
  • Work with mentor to set development goals to satisfy college internship requirements
  • Research and complete assigned projects in a timely manner by working closely with the Acting Purchasing Director and Purchasing Department personnel.
  • Understand customer requirements and sourcing.
  • Apply analyst and accounting skills to identify and streamline required repetitive procedures, 
  • Research, analyze, and review supply categories utilizing the City of Delray Beach Purchasing Methodology
  • Acquire knowledge of the City’s Purchasing Department functions
  • Assist with other Purchasing projects as needed.
 
Knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics:
  • Strong analyst, accounting and/or finance skills
  • Organizational, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and citizens
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office 2010 and Internet research
Learning Goals
  • Principles of Government Purchasing
  • Contract Management and administration. 

Students should consult with academic faculty to determine if this unpaid experience will earn credit.

Minimum Qualifications:
Undergraduate, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior level student pursuing a major in Business Administration, Economics, or Public Administration and who will be continuing their education enrolled in an accredited community college/university for Fall 2021.
• They will be a high-performing student, with good communication and customer service skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
