Mosquito surveillance technician
The Kading lab in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology invites student applicants to an hourly field research position from mid-May through mid-August 2021. One opening is currently available. Hours vary but are can be up to 20 hours/week at $13/hour.
The position is expected to participate in summer mosquito surveillance activities in and around the City of Fort Collins. Duties of this position may include, but are not limited to:
- Collecting mosquitoes from designated field sites and rearing them in the laboratory
- Deploying mosquito marking devices to track mosquito dispersal patterns
- General lab duties, to be determined
- Data entry and management
- Evaluation of the environmental persistence of DNA barcodes in various artificial container types
- Pilot testing attractive sugar bait stations for adult mosquitoes in the field
- Mosquito identification
