  • Serves as a Research and Development (R&D) Engineer responsible for executing and managing projects in the field of structural engineering in one or more of the following areas:
  • Blast and weapons effects against structures and geo-materials
  • Survivability and force protection
  • Blast-resistant design and protective structures
  • Structural dynamics
  • Structural systems
  • Civil works and transportation infrastructure such as bridges, roadways, dams, navigation locks
  • High-performance materials

  • At the target level DB-4, responsibilities include:
  • Develops proposals and test plans to solve complex engineering problems. Designs and performs complex laboratory and field experiments. Analyzes statistical or numerical data from experiments and prepares interim and final reports. Uses numerical modeling and finite element analyses to design and analyze structural systems, simulate experiments, and conduct parametric analyses. Conducts detailed material characterization to provide required input for numerical modeling.

  • Transfers technology to the nation and warfighter through technical publications, guidance documents, and/or software and web applications. Works with organization leadership to coordinate R&D endeavors and effectively communicates with teams, sponsors, and stakeholders. Ability to direct and manage personnel is required.

  • Travel Required: 25% or less - Up to 25% annual business travel may be required in this position.
