Entry Level Electrical Engineer - I&C and Power Distribution Systems

The Prototype Electrical Safety and Support Systems organization at NNL plays an integral role in the electrical design, testing, deployment, troubleshooting and support of critical Instrumentation and Control (I&C) and power distribution systems for the Navy submarine training platform safety systems. These systems control safety critical functions, demanding the highest degree of quality and reliability.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Applying expertise to troubleshoot and resolve issues associated with assigned system(s) in a timely manner
  • Being the subject matter expert on design, operation and maintenance for assigned system(s)
  • Developing technical recommendations/reports including changes to operating and maintenance procedures and schematics used by Navy personnel, usually requiring the integration across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Initiate, develop, and support the execution and implementation of engineering research and design projects
  • Obtaining necessary qualifications for hands on laboratory-based work to develop test/operating procedures and performing laboratory testing of equipment

REQUIRED SKILLS *

Associate:
  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university required.

Intermediate:
  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or
  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience; or
  • Currently or previously EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
  • SRE Qualification
 
PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Co-op, internship, and/or prior work experience in a technical field
  • Demonstrated leadership skills through previous work or academic experience
  • Electrical design and problem solving experience
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience writing technical reports and giving presentations
  • Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0/4.0
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills which will be essential in the candidate’s ability to contribute effectively in a teaming environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written communication skills with an ability to articulate technical ideas in a Strong organizational skill
  • Team building projects
