Neuroscience Research Intern - Undergraduate

Naval Medical Research Unit - Dayton (NAMRU-D) conducts research on environmental health effects and aerospace medicine, addressing health and performance challenges faced by service members in operational military environments.

What will I be doing?

NAMRU-D's Environmental Health Effects Lab, Dept. of Behavioral, Cognitive and Neurophysiology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, OH is seeking undergraduate students to perform and support research activities in the field of neuroscience.

You will receive hands-on training in a variety of laboratory techniques, gain experience in literature searches and review, be involved in experimental design, and participate in discussions of experimental results. You will be expected to exhibit individual initiative, effective communication skills, work independently, accept feedback, be collaborative, possess attention to detail, and be trustworthy.

What is the anticipated start date? 

NAMRU-D is ready to make an appointment immediately. Exact start date will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate.  

What is the length of the appointment?

This ORISE appointment is part-time 12-month duration. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

What are the benefits?

Nature of Appointment

You will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

Qualifications

Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences, preferably in neuroscience, and have taken courses in biology, chemistry, physiology, and neuroscience. No laboratory experience is necessary.
