Research Analyst - Experienced Military/Naval Warfare

Overview
The Operational Evaluation Division (OED) has an immediate career opening for an Analyst to support the Department of Defense's assessment of the operational effectiveness and suitability of Naval Warfare-related Defense Acquisition Programs. IDA takes great pride in the high caliber and timeliness of its analyses, which are produced in an atmosphere that encourages independent thinking and objective results. Work at IDA is conducted in a team environment and often involves a multi-disciplinary approach.

Responsibilities
The Analyst will support and advise mid- and senior-level civilian and military officials regarding the operational test and evaluation of Naval Warfare programs. In particular, the successful candidate will provide analytical support to the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) regarding the testing and evaluation of Naval mine countermeasures, mine neutralization systems, and other Naval surface warfare systems. This analytical support includes analyzing the design, execution, and results of operational testing, and providing an independent assessment to OSD’s Director, Operational Test and Evaluation. Close interaction with government officials responsible for the planning, development, and execution of tests is required. Travel is required.

Qualifications
  • Candidates must have a PhD or Masters degree in Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Engineering (Mechanical, Nuclear, Electrical), Operations Research, Statistics, Data Science or an interdisciplinary program that encompasses one of these areas of focus coupled with relevant work experience (via government, military, industry, fellowships, or internships).
  • Candidates with a backgrounds in Naval surface warfare and Naval mine warfare are particularly desirable.
  • Must have experience compiling, analyzing, and presenting quantitative data.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
  • Up to 25% travel is required.
