Post Doctorate RA - Analysis and Modeling of Extreme Events

The Atmospheric Sciences and Global Change Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a postdoctoral research associate to perform research on analysis and modeling of extreme events in the context of climate variability and change. The successful candidate will work with a project team to perform analyses of observations and climate simulations to understand the underlying mechanisms for how extreme events respond to external forcing through dynamical and thermodynamical effects. The candidate may also perform research on analysis and modeling to understand the predictability of extreme events and water cycle processes on subseasonal-to-multidecadal timescales. Ability to design and perform numerical experiments using climate models to test specific hypotheses will be considered favorably, in addition to analyzing observations and output from climate models.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with climate models and climate model outputs;
  • Fluency in Fortran, C++, and Python/shell scripting;
