About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst SME to support the Health Systems and Worker Safety (HSWS) task force under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – COVID-19 response team. The role will be a part of the Clinical Data and Health Services Team/Health Systems Coordination Unit. The COVID-19 clinical team develops and updates information and guidance for clinicians regarding clinical aspects of COVID-19 disease. Additional activities include regular communications with clinicians to aid their understanding of COVID-19 disease, responding to clinical inquiries from the general public, and monitoring for adverse events associated with COVID-19 therapeutics. This position reports to the clinical and Health System Team Lead.
Initial work location is remote, due to COVID-19 work restrictions on the CDC campus. Once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, this role will report and transition to the Roybal Campus located in Atlanta, Georgia. This role is 100% at the customer’s location.

Responsibilities
  • Data quality assessments.
  • Lead analytic projects and provide consultation and support to the Clinical Team as needed.
  • Build big data provisioning pipelines.
  • Conduct machine learning analyses, which may include natural language processing tasks.
  • Provide consultation to other Clinical Team units on a variety of analytic, data engineering, and data visualization tasks.

Required Experience and Skills
  • 5+ years leading data analytics projects
  • Proficiency in R or Python, experience with Git, and excellent data communication skills.
  • Experience with data engineering, informatics, working with data at scale, and experience working in AWS environments.
  • Strong background performing data analysis including statistical methods.
  • Experience validating, cleaning, and analyzing clinical data from multiple sources.
  • Experience serving as a consultant (internal or external) on analytic projects.
  • The ability to provide technical assistance to internal and external team members and stakeholders.
  • Previous experience analyzing large complex dataset independently.
  • Experience implanting machine learning techniques.
  • Familiarity with text analytics.
  • Experience with conducting inferential statistical analyses such as regression, correlation or time-to-event analyses.
  • Ability to obtain government clearance.

Education and Training
  • BA/BS in a related field (or equivalent experience), Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Strong quantitative skills.
  • Experience providing technical assistance in support of an IT system.
  • A clinical background, familiarity with text analytics, and experience with machine learning are beneficial.
  • Effective organization and communication skills
  • Experience working with/in the CDC.

Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, using hands/fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, talking, hearing, and seeing up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus; occasional walking or standing, occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
