Mobility Technology Interns (2 positions)


This position is open to applications from Colorado residents and non-residents.

There are two internships that will be filled via this announcement.
 
This is a paid temporary part-time (minimum of 24 hours/week) through full-time position with no benefits (except for paid sick leave). Must commit to at least 9 months of employment.

There are two internships that will be filled from this announcement.
 
About the Team
This internship is in the Office of Innovative Mobility, which includes the Division of Transit and Rail and other functions to expand mobility options, including through ridesharing, electrification, and emerging technologies. The intern selected for this position will be working directly with the Assistant Directors of Mobility Services, Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, and Electrification and Energy.

What’ll You’ll be Doing
The purpose of this part-time/full-time temporary internship is to provide meaningful professional experience in the transportation field to collegiate students (or graduates within 3 years of graduation, or Colorado Refugee Services Program participants) with proven academic performance and a strong desire to learn and contribute.
 
  1. Manage stakeholder engagement including note taking, data collection, and project coordination for various emerging mobility projects such as the Front Range Passenger Rail and the Transit Emissions Dashboard. 
  2. Conduct research on traditional and emerging technologies, electrification, Transportation Demand Management (TDM), and multimodal strategies. 
  3. Provide support for various grant programs including the Can Do Community Grant Program.
  4. Support the development and implementation of new and existing state plans, including the 2020 Colorado Electric Vehicle (EV) Plan, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Roadmap, and others.
  5. Grant writing and reporting as needed. 
  6. Occasional travel within the Denver metro region and to other areas throughout the state. Must have a valid driver’s license. 
  7. Other duties as assigned.
 
Work Environment:
  • This position is based at CDOT's Statewide Headquarters Complex located at 2829 W. Howard Place, Denver, CO 80204. However, it will primarily be a "Work From Anywhere" position.
  • The expected work schedule is between Monday through Friday.
  • It is anticipated that this role will work approximately 24 to 40 hours per week.
  • The ability to work in an active, collaborative, team-oriented environment, often using virtual means in a "Work from Anywhere" environment, is a must.
  • Use of a computer to accomplish everyday work duties

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates must be either:
  • Any college student enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university seeking an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree.
 
OR
 
  • A recent college graduate. Recently graduated means the individual should have attended an accredited college or university and have graduated with an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree within three calendar years.
 
OR
 
  • A certified participant in the Colorado Refugee Services Program.
 
College Transcripts: If you are using education to qualify, a legible copy of your official or unofficial college transcript(s) or a foreign credential evaluation report must be submitted with your application. Transcripts must show the name of the school and that a degree was conferred. Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States must be assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service. Failure to provide a transcript or foreign credential evaluation report may result in your application being rejected and you will not be able to continue in the selection process for this position.

Preferred Qualifications
The exceptional applicant will be undergraduate or graduate college/university student, or recent graduate as defined above, interested in improving the Colorado Department of Transportation through innovative mobility and has proven accomplishments in the following:
  • Knowledge of the sustainable transportation industry and a desire to learn about transportation and mobility.
  • Strong data analytical skills including data collection/analysis and a robust ability to use Microsoft Excel. A collaborative spirit with excellent follow-up and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, an ability to prioritize tasks in a fast moving environment, self-direct, and take initiative with minimum supervision.
  • Strong communicator including interpersonal, written, and speaking skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced Geographic Information System (GIS) skills and experience using Esri products; a plus.
  • Experience and/or ability to learn graphic design, website management, and document creation.
