Graphic Design Intern – Marketing & Communications Department
Department description: The College of Business Marketing and Communications team is responsible for a wide array of College efforts. These efforts include but are not limited to prospective student advertising (digital and traditional), internal displays, e-mail communications to external audiences, event messaging and visuals, branded promotions, flyers, marketing materials and website creation and management.
What you’ll learn: You’ll have the opportunity to work as an in-house designer within a high-performing marketing and communications team responsible for school-wide efforts. You’ll work directly under the supervision of an experienced UI/UX designer and gain experience in both traditional and digital design. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Graphic Design
- Exercise good judgment in manipulating formal elements of visual communication such as contrast, color, scale and typography to create compelling layouts. Search and select stock images that support the message/brand and use best practices for image optimization L
- Develop appropriate visual solutions that speak to targeted audiences V/WC
- Understand and apply style guidelines and observe branding standards CT/PS
- Types of collateral projects include flyers, posters, banners, direct mail, newsletters, print ads, promotional items, presentation slides and brochures along with web banner ads, Facebook ads and email graphics C
- Review all concepts/jobs with a senior art director to ensure brand consistency and quality design. Solicit and receive feedback to apply to the design PA
- Working knowledge of HTML and CSS for email communications Production/prepress DP
- Basic understanding of how to prepare final files for production Team player DP
- Establish and maintain positive productive relationships with internal stakeholders, team members and external vendors TW
- Other duties as assigned CD

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat and other Creative Suite programs along with the ability to know when it’s appropriate to use each program DP
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel DP
- Possess keen design instincts and the ability to make quick decisions about type, image, and layout in order to put together a cohesive and well-designed piece L
- Motivated and punctual with a good work ethic and passion for design PA
- Self-starter who is thorough and detailed-oriented. Comfortable handling multiple projects at once L
- Excellent organization skills and ability to prioritize and re-prioritize tasks in response to a dynamic environment PA
- Great communication skills and the ability to take direction/criticism when needed and apply that to his/her design V/WC
- Must be able to manage multiple assignments, communicate priorities and meet short deadlines PA
- Strong personal qualities of enthusiasm, creativity, and collaboration based on solid judgment and an appreciation for the team environment C
