Children, Youth & Family Services In-Home Professional (Caseworker I/II/III)

***Salary to be commensurate with qualifications***
Professional (Caseworker I):
Salary Range: $38,900 - $56,520 annually
Typical Hiring Range: $38,900.16 - $40,845.22 annually
 
Professional (Caseworker II):
Salary Range: $43,100 - $62,460 annually
Typical Hiring Range: $43,100.20 - $45,255.34 annually
 
Professional (Caseworker III):
Salary Range: $43,100 - $62,460 annually
Typical Hiring Range: $46,428.46 - $48,749.74 annually

Works to preserve and/or rehabilitate families while protecting children's physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Provides intensive in-home child protection services to families with children as a result of an abuse and/or neglect complaint with the primary concern of substance abuse. This position is part of the Children, Youth & Family Services (CYFS) In-Home Professional (Caseworker) career progression series, which includes CYFS In-Home Professional (Caseworker I), CYFS In-Home Professional (Caseworker II), and CYFS In-Home Professional (Caseworker III). An employee is eligible to advance to the next position within the series when the employee has met the criteria for advancement as notated within the job description and has received a recommendation from the Hiring Authority.
  • Provides in-home instruction to families, strengthening parental competency by promoting family independence, by teaching family skill practice to include problem solving, anger management, conflict resolution, household management, home cleaning, and by explaining how to access community resources and support systems.
  • Addresses and teaches clients how to meet and sustain basic needs as well as client’s health and wellbeing to include the impact on the child’s health and wellbeing. 
  • Provides crisis management for clients in resolving problems and conflicts.
  • Assists clients with milestones and other assigned homework for specialty courts.
  • In collaboration with the case team, assists in the development of support/healthy living plans.
  • Coordinates community resources for clients to include rehabilitation services, as needed.
  • Monitors, tracks, and reports compliance with court orders concerning areas such as individual/family therapy, medication management, and substance abuse treatment in collaboration with caseworker.
  • Coordinates, prepares, and participates in Treatment Support Meetings (TSM) and Family Engagement Meetings (FEM).
  • Attends and testifies in court hearings; participates in pre-court staffings.
  • Documents all contacts and ensures that all paperwork and documentation are accurately completed and filed; completes necessary case information reports and inputs updates into database.
  • Arranges and provides transportation for clients to appointments, therapy, school, court hearings, pre-placement visits, etc.
  • Performs child welfare duties as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
  • To qualify for an In-Home Professional (Caseworker) at any level:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a major in a human behavior science field required as stated in Volume 7 Section 7.603.1 (D) 2 to include a degree with at least 30 semester or 45 quarter hours of coursework in development of human behavior, child development, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures, or therapeutic techniques such as social work, psychology, sociology, guidance and counseling, and/or child development.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, clients, other agencies, community professionals, the courts, and the public.
  • Ability to efficiently plan, schedule, and organize.
  • Ability to assess situations and make prudent and appropriate decisions; ability to apply conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently complete paperwork, reports, and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently as appropriate.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment to include computer, fax machine, copier, and telephone.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation to include fingerprinting, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination. College transcripts required prior to date of hire.
  • To qualify for an In-Home Professional I:
  • Minimum one (1) year of professional caseworker, case management, or human services experience in a public or private human services agency required.
  • To qualify for an In-Home Professional II:
  • One (1) year of professional caseworker/case management experience acquired after the degree in a public or private social services agency required.
  • Master’s degree in a human behavioral science field with at least 10 semester or 18 quarter hours in courses relevant to child welfare or a Bachelor’s degree of social work and successful completion of an approved field placement in a county department of human services may substitute for the one (1) year of required experience.
  • Working knowledge of casework practices, procedures, and guidelines.
  • To qualify for an In-Home Professional III:
  • Two (2) years of professional caseworker/case management experience acquired after the degree in a public or private social services agency required.
  • Master’s degree in a human behavioral science field with at least 10 semester or 18 quarter hours in courses relevant to child welfare or a Bachelor’s degree of social work and successful completion of an approved field placement in a county department of human services may substitute for the one (1) year of required experience.
  • MSW degree from a college or university either accepted into candidacy for accreditation or accredited by the Council on Social Work may substitute for the two (2) years of required experience.
  • Working knowledge of casework practices, procedures, and guidelines.

Licenses/Certificates
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License. 
  • Must obtain and maintain necessary certifications as applicable to position.
  • Colorado State Child Welfare Caseworker Certification or the ability to successfully complete and pass initial examination within six (6) months of employment.

Work Conditions
Work is performed in an office environment, client's homes, schools, jails, and court; must be able to climb stairs in or outside of these environments and able to walk up and down driveways and sidewalks. May be exposed to hostile family situations/ individuals, and unsanitary and hazardous conditions. Weekend and evening hours will be required. Occasional lifting of files, supplies, children: exerting 20 lbs – 50 lbs occasionally; 10 lbs – 25 lbs frequently, or up to 10 lbs constantly.
