Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) for Great Smoky Mountains National Park

The Park
Ridge upon ridge of forest straddles the border between North Carolina and Tennessee in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. World renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, this is America's most visited national park.

The Work
The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) will help streamline operations and lead the Volunteer Program at Great Smokey Mountains. They will conduct local and extended outreach to broaden the reach of this program and diversify the park's volunteer workforce.
  • Perform daily administrative duties in the VIP office
  • Recruit volunteers; plan and lead volunteer service activities throughout the park
  • Help coordinate training and enrichment opportunities for volunteers and staff associated with the program
  • Help plan and facilitate volunteer recognition events
  • Participate in discussion and organizing for strategic operations plan to sustain Great Smokey Mountain's VIP Program into the future
  • Assist with oversight of the Artist-In-Residence Program
  • Assist with data collection, entry and analysis; and annual reports

The Details
  • Length: position is 50 weeks, 40 hours/week
  • Start Date: Monday, February 7th 2022
  • Living Allowance: Baseline allowance of $500/week* AmeriCorps Award: $6,345 (pre- tax)
  • Application Due Date: 12/17/2021, or Until Filled Members will attend a week-long, nationwide, National Early Service Training
  • Members will receive Public Land Corps Hiring Authority upon completion

The Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
  • 18-30 years old (35 years old if you are a veteran) Able to commit to a year of full-time work
  • Willing to occasionally work weekends and odd hours Organized and able to shift modes as needed Consistent attention to detail
  • Good oral and written communication skills Friendly and outgoing
  • Submit proof of a Driver’s License and undergo a Federal Background Check, upon selection
  • It is very likely that all participants will be required to be fully vaccinated to serve in the 2022 CVA Program. At a minimum participants will be required to get tested weekly if they are not vaccinated. Dates for implementing these requirements are not yet determined, but we expect that compliance will be necessary by the end of 2021
  • Ideal applicant will have an outgoing and affable personality
  • Local candidates within commuting distance of the park and with knowledge of local communities are preferred
  • Confident in oral and written communication Comfortable analyzing and reporting data
  • Experience with Adobe,microsft office suite, excel and managing social media Strong public speaking skills and effective communication skills

Housing
In park housing is available to the intern at no cost.
