Position Summary: Oversee all operational aspects of Sweet SInsations in the Lory Student Center.
Reports to: Retail Coffee Manager: Cait Soukup
Hours required: approximately 20 hours per week – flexible schedule/ varies throughout the semester. Approximately 40% of hours on the floor, 60% in the office
Rate of Pay: $14.25/hour PLUS Credit Card and Cash Gratuities

Our ideal candidate has a hunger for hands on experience to understand the financial aspects of the food service industry.

The candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside Professional Staff to understand multiple aspects of running a business. This position is a great opportunity for hands on learning with Food and Safety Trainings & Standards, Product Quality Control, Profit and Loss Statements, Inventory Management, developing Communication Skills, and much more!

Responsibilities:
  •  Responsible for supervising student employees as well as any shift leads and assistant managers.
  •  Ensure that Assistant Managers assist in ordering all food and non-food items (through purchase orders in Yellow Dog whenever possible) and for counting inventory bi-weekly. Verifies orders for correct quantity, price and quality. Ensures all items are properly labeled and stored. Position ultimately accountable for not running out of any product.
  • Monitors quality of all menu items for consistency.
  •  Ensures all food safety and sanitation standards are adhered to in the areas of food handling, food storage, work areas and employee attire. Attends Environmental Health Services special departmental trainings with staff. Manage employee illness logs with student staff and ensure signed safe food handling agreements (condition of student employment) are followed.
  •  Oversees the proper operation, sanitation and routine maintenance of all equipment. Trains staff on the use of equipment. Set up work orders through LSC Operations department when necessary.
  •  Post job announcements (through Handshake), hires, trains and schedules all student hourly staff. 
  •  Approves employee labor hours and gratuity sheets while working with LSC Payroll/Personnel.
  •  Communicates pertinent information to employees in a timely manner. Updates employee handbook and cash handling procedures as necessary and enforces policies and procedures in these documents. Clearly outlines expectations to student staff and advises and counsels employees on unacceptable behavior.
  • Trains staff to provide excellent customer service. Provides guidance and strategies to handle customer complaints/ suggestions and answer questions about food allergens in menu items.
  • Develops special promotions for customer appreciation and other special events as needed. Markets products, events, and special points of interest via Social Media and marketing avenues. Delegates to social media consultant.
  •  Attends weekly management meetings and training sessions with leadership team as requested by supervisor. 
  • Conduct bi-weekly profit and loss statements by monitoring labor costs and inventory through the use of Yellow-dog, Clover, Excel and Oracle software.
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Applicants should have good written and oral communication skills, enjoy working in a fast paced environment and be able to provide excellent customer service under stressful conditions. The ability to delegate, motivate and supervise around 20+ student employees is essential. Computer and mathematical proficiency are important as are people skills, communication and assertiveness. Basic common sense and good judgment are required.
