Corporate Partnerships Internship


Location: Remote

Compensation: $15/hr

Time Commitment: 20 hours per week for 5-6 months (April-September)

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION: Best Friends Animal Society is a national non-profit focused on ending the killing of cats and dogs in America's shelters by 2025. Best Friends is leading the no-kill movement by running lifesaving community programs for dogs and cats, providing support and training for animal shelters and rescue groups, and mobilizing community members on behalf of pets in need across the country. POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Corporate Partnerships intern will be responsible for supporting the Corporate Team, helping to identify and research prospects, develop proposals, and steward partners. The Corporate Team is responsible for raising significant revenue and brand visibility for Best Friends and engaging new audiences in our mission.

Corporate Partnerships Interns report to the Manager of Corporate and Media Partnerships Development, and will receive weekly supervision and trainings on relevant career topics. The minimum time commitment for the Corporate Partnership Internship is 20 hours per week at $15.00 per hour for 6 months. This is a remote internship. Students seeking college credit are welcome to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Creation of and updating of partner case studies 
  • Prospect research – utilizing prospect research tools to help determine details of potential partners, including contact information, philanthropic interests and past gifts, and current non-profit brand partnerships
  • Developing prospect proposals (initial draft of deck at least)
  • Research on cause marketing marketplace partnerships/trends
  • Competitors and other relevant partnerships we should be aware of
  • Hot trends
  • Outside of the box ideas
  • Industry standards
  • Corporate score card application to current/past partners – apply our new corporate score card to partnerships to help rate and rank our partnerships
  • Support fundraisers by conducting portfolio reviews
  • Identify acknowledgments/benefits outstanding
  • Review payment terms 
  • Stewardship support – help create stewardship materials that acknowledge partners and their donations, as well as provide information about our organization and upcoming campaigns/events to keep them engaged 
  • Treat people around you with Kindness and Compassion, build trust by demonstrating authenticity and following through on your commitments, prioritize your well-being, and work to build strong inclusive relationships with your colleagues by participating in communication loops to share and receive honest feedback.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
  • Gain a thorough understanding of development and fundraising operations and best practices
  • Become familiar with the partner stewardship process
  • Develop researching skills, especially related to partnership research
  • Learn industry and cause-marketing standards
  • Develop writing and presentation skills and utilize in creation of prospect proposals
  • Develop the skills necessary to thrive in a remote working environment

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Basic knowledge of internet research 
  • Organized, and able to compile and report back information
  • Professional written and oral communication (internal and external)
  • Effective time management in a high demand setting
  • Interest in learning how non-profits raise funds through brand partnerships
