ACT Human Rights Film Festival Community Outreach & Engagement Coordinator Workstudy

The 8th annual ACT Human Rights Film Festival comes to Colorado State University in March - April 2023. Produced by the Department of Communication Studies, the festival showcases the best in human rights cinema from around the world. The Community Outreach & Engagement Coordinator plays a key role in the ACT Human Rights Film Festival’s success by helping connect audiences with pathways toward social justice engagement and collective action. This position helps ACT connect with affinity nonprofits and other civil society activists. ACT Human Rights Film Festival Community Outreach & Engagement Coordinator reports to ACT’s Managing Director. The location of the office varies depending on the task. A laptop computer is available for use. 

This is a Spring 2023 semester-long work-study position. Applicant must be eligible for work-study to apply and be in academic good standing. Priority will be given to College of Liberal Arts and/or Honor's Program applicants.
 
Reports to ACT’s Managing Director. Key duties include:
 
Outreach and Community Engagement
Goal: To connect community activists and nonprofits with the film festival’s themes and topics
  • Research and identify grassroots movements, nonprofits, and other civil society groups that advocate for social justice and human rights.
  • Create outreach materials and other collateral to share with targeted affinity groups.
  • Distribute ACT materials to various community groups and partners.
  • Recruit speakers and engagement for audiences to connect with nonprofits and human rights activists during the festival
  • Communicate and engage with diverse groups aligned with film-specific interests. 
  • Create impact campaigns for each feature-length film to support audience engagement.
  • Attend and help staff the festival
  • Coordinate activist/nonprofit staff speakers’ schedules as the official liaison with all active participants. 
 
Timeline: Workstudy follows Colorado State University’s academic calendar for the Spring 2023 semester.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Undergraduate student in good standing
  • Workstudy eligible
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous film festival experience.
  • Experience working for human rights-focused initiatives.
  • Meaningful past volunteer experience
  • College of Liberal Arts Major
  • Honor's Program student
 
Hourly Pay Rate: $15/hour. Estimated 8 hours a week
