Scientific Collecting Permit (SCP) Review - Environmental Scientist

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is looking for an outgoing and motivated individual to work as an Environmental Scientist for the Fisheries Branch headquarters office. This position is responsible for the review of fisheries Scientific Collecting Permit (SCP) applications and technical reports to determine potential impacts to fish and freshwater invertebrate populations throughout the state. This is an excellent opportunity for a burgeoning scientist to gain experience with permitting procedures as well as California's diverse and unique aquatic ecosystems. You will also assist the Department with crafting permit conditions for California Endangered Species Act (CESA) and Fully Protected Species Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) and assist in the review of Federal Endangered Species Act (ESA) research permits. We look for opportunities to cross train with other programs and perform occasional field work when possible.

This position is currently designated as 100% telework due to Covid Pandemic Emergency Telework directive. Once Emergency Telework ends, this position is eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California. Hybrid telework will be dependent on operational need. The office is located in West Sacramento in a modern office building including free parking, EV charging, and locker room with showers.

This position is 12 months Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
