High-Impact Work Study Research Assistant on Spanish Language

JOB DESCRIPTION:
This work will involve research on Spanish language needs analysis in the fields of
health care, law enforcement, legal services, and social work. The successful candidate
will assist with the following tasks:
• interview professionals (in English) in the relevant fields about the interaction
they have with Spanish speakers and their own language needs
• connect with Spanish-speaking community members (in Spanish) about their
interactions with professionals in these fields
• transcribe and categorize the language needs of specific professions
• read a variety of pertinent literature pertaining to research in the above listed
fields

This work-study opportunity touches on all career competencies however we place
special emphasis on digital proficiency, global context, critical thinking & problem
solving, and inclusive teamwork.


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student workers will be immersed in professional contexts related to their specific
career goals and areas of specialization. Through work-study responsibilities,
students will have the opportunity to learn the following skills: data gathering strategies
and analysis related to language use, culture, and communication in specific
professional contexts.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must have knowledge of the Spanish Language


PAY RATE: $18.00/hour 10-15 hours/week

Start Date: This is a Fall 2022 work study position with the potential opportunity for continued employment into the spring.
