The Perera laboratory housed within the Center for Vector-borne Infectious Disease on the foothills campus focuses on mosquito-borne viral diseases, including those caused by Zika, dengue, and Chikungunya viruses. The research focus of the laboratory is to identify and characterize virus-host interactions and develop methods to utilize this information to block viral replication and transmission.

This position is for Student Lab Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of the lab. 

This position is for a Student Lab Assistant I. Positions apply established, standard guidelines that cover work situations and alternatives.
 
These duties include:
•          washing and sterilizing glassware
•          maintaining and cleaning laboratory equipment
•          Ordering, sorting, taking inventory, and disposing of selected disposable laboratory materials and supplies
•          maintaining laboratory sanitation standards and properly disposing of infectious wastes and materials.
•          Record and maintain client or research data; receive and send data and specimens, and collect specimens.

This position may select alternatives that affect the manner in which laboratory-related support tasks are carried out. A high level of organization is required of the individual.

Minimum Qualifications: Must have flexible working hours to accommodate laboratory needs. Ability to work well independently. Must have the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Completion of all Biosafety Level 2 and blood-borne pathogens training will be required. The candidate must be comfortable with laboratory maintenance work. The candidate must have a car since the laboratory is on the foothills campus. Candidate must have excellent communication skills.
