Software Engineering Intern

***This is a remote role, open to all candidates in MT, CT, and ET. Open to undergraduate juniors and seniors

Over the past 15 years, we have seen a shift in the focus of business models across every industry – from selling physical products via one-time transactions to monetizing services via ongoing customer (aka subscriber) relationships. This is the “Subscription Economy” a phrase coined by our CEO, Tien Tzuo, he even wrote the book on it: Subscribed.

Companies have realized that the path to growth going forward is to establish direct, digital relationships with their customers, and monetize these relationships through an ever growing set of digital services.

Our vision is simple: we call it “The World Subscribed.” It’s the idea that one day every company will join the Subscription Economy -- a $1.5 Trillion opportunity by 2025 according to UBS.

Our mission: to power the world’s best companies to win in the Subscription Economy.

The Team & Role
Zuora’s engineering team is focused on building and delivering world class SaaS Products and Services for our customers. We’re also tackling some really cool technical infrastructure and platform capabilities, efforts that have previously resulted in multiple technology patents. We run primarily on a distributed, microservices architecture transformed from our original monolithic codebase allowing for easy customization and extension of our products by our entire engineering group, as well as customers and partners. We have made a strong commitment to building services and tools that make it easy (and fun) for developers to build and deploy their own services, including a centralized system for provisioning and maintaining Jenkins build servers as well as an innovative command-line tool that leverages Terraform and AWS APIs to provide a simple, consistent way to provision and deploy infrastructure and services to AWS. In addition, we don’t just want to build quickly, we want to build quality. We have a commitment to scalability and quality as a part of our “Engineering DNA”.

In this role you’ll get to
  • Work with product management and development teams to learn use case scenarios and create and execute software to validate those use cases
  • Help shape our product by providing input on designs and giving feedback on usability
  • Improve customer success by monitoring cloud services and customer feedback
  • Find and report product usability issues, defects and incompatibilities
  • Gather information from external sources including beta users, forums, and app stores to identify problems, establish the root cause and document reproduction steps
  • Work in a modern microservices environment and build enterprise software using Java, Python, or cloud technologies
  • Participate as a team member in our agile scrums
  • Potential to work on mission critical platform projects, on-prem AWS transformation and/or data analytics projects
  • Learn to build software with container technology, automate software development processes, source code management practices and distributed systems

Who we’re looking for
  • Education: currently completing Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related technical discipline. Applicants must be in their junior or senior year.
  • Capabilities in at least one coding language.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • An interest in learning and contributing to making a great product better is a must.
  • Self-motivated, willing to use online resources to answer questions and expand skills.
