Alliance Social Justice thru the Arts 2023, Mentors positions

Description: The program Social Justice thru the Arts (SJTA) is looking for students to assist as mentors with our Alliance Summer Institutes. Being a mentor is a great way to gain experience working with high school students facilitate groups, share your personal college experience and be paid. 
The Alliance Partner High Schools are identified based on a number of factors including:
·      the percentage of students eligible for the free or reduced lunch program
·      racial and ethnic makeup of the student population
·      number of students who represent the first generation in their family to attend college
·      schools that represented diverse geographic regions of the state
 
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
As SJTA mentor will have the role of supporting our efforts administratively along the following line:
·      Helping us with outreach to schools and interested parties including administrators, teachers, guidance counselors, and students (entails emails and phone calls)
·      Working with the selected participants prior to the start of the program (GroupMe, emails, and phone calls)
·      Helping us with curriculum development, and especially activities for the sessions.
·      Supporting the program technically while in session
·      Administer and fill out evaluation at the end of the program.
 
Mentors can also be expected to:
·      Attend our meetings
·      Follow up on action items assigned
·      Provide an evaluation of your work site
·      Be evaluated as a mentor
·      Be available to debrief the program
 
 Support and encourage participants to: 
·      Manage their own learning in order to maximize their potential 
·      Develop their skills, and improve their performance 
·      Providing experiential evening activities 
·      Ask questions and challenge, while providing guidance and encouragement

·      Global Context (GC): Demonstrate an understanding of diverse people, cultures, and systems; understand actions have local and global implications for the future.

Hourly Pay Rate: $15.00 an hour 
Start Date: Start date May 16; Event date July 16 - 22, 2023; 
Training will be required (MAY 17-18, 9am-5pm).
