Student Staff Assistant - Computer Science Front Desk

This is a WORK STUDY position, students must have or guarantee they will obtain work study before starting employment. Indicate if you already have a work study award. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for questions and eligibility.
Computer Science (CS) and majors and minors will not be considered for position due to confidentiality.
Note requested required "other document" with additional information.
 
Specific hours needed covered presently for the rest of the 23Spring semester - List which shifts or part of shifts you are able to cover:
--Mondays 4:00-5:15
--Tuesdays 7:45-10:50
--Wednesdays 11:50-2:00
--Thursdays 7:45-10:50
We also need coverage over the breaks. See "Other Document" below

The Computer Science (CS) department seeks a dependable student staff assistant to cover the CS front reception desk. This is an undergraduate, student hourly, work study* position working in conjunction with a team of students who cover the front desk in individual, independent shifts during office hours of 7:45-5:15 (Monday-Friday). Your shift schedule will remain the same each week. Shifts can be multiple shorter shifts in one day. Training and supervision are provided.

 
Job Description:
 
Seeking a student assistant with initiative and the ability to work both independently and with a team. Professional appearance and manner, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. It is essential that the assistant have a positive attitude, a welcoming presence and be comfortable working with a wide diversity of people.
 
The assistant must be detail oriented, organized, able to manage multiple priorities and willing to take direction. Assistants will occasionally juggle walkups and phone calls at the same time. In addition, the position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, legible handwriting, and proficiency in email, internet searching, and software including Outlook, Microsoft Word, basic Excel and PowerPoint. The assistant should be willing and able to learn new systems and software. After training, the assistant will be expected to multitask with minimal direction and rapidly learn new tasks.
 
Because we invest time training our student staff assistants, we desire applicants who would like to stay with the department through their schooling and work breaks and summers. Freshman and sophomores are encouraged to apply. The reception student staff assistant work schedule is determined each semester based on the students' class schedules/availability and the department’s scheduling needs.
 
We take student coursework into consideration and the assistant will sometimes have time to do coursework at the desk during less busy times, but not guaranteed, CS duties coming first.
 
 
Job Duties:
 
Support the Computer Science department administrative office. Our student staff assistants are valued team members. Duties include/may include:
•Work in communication with supervisor to manage workload
•Meet, greet, and assist students, department faculty and staff, CSU employees and visitors/guests, both internal and external to CSU
•Answer in-person walkups, emails and all reception phone calls. Route calls and voicemail and email
•Assist with academic advisor appointments and room scheduling
•Sort mail and inform addresses of package receipt
•Unlock and lock building rooms at the beginning and end of day
•Complete general clerical tasks such as emailing, copying, scanning, and filing documents
•Run errands on campus
•Ensure kitchen, mailroom, common study areas, conference rooms etc. are kept clean and orderly
•Assist in retrieving data from records, systems, data entry. Assist with archival and disposal of records
•Assist departmental staff with preparation of materials
•May assist CS Accounting. (Kuali experience is a plus, but not necessary)
•Assist with projects and events (name tags, setting up catering, preparing handouts, etc.)
•Familiarity with office machines and equipment, copier, scanner, printer, etc.
•Assist with other duties as assigned and tasks that may arise
•Must be flexible and comfortable with multitasking
