Elementary Counselor

Juab School District has an opening for the 2023-2024 school year for an Elementary School Counselor. The position will provide services to three elementary schools within the Juab School District. School counselors work to maximize student success, promoting access and equity for all students. As vital members of the school leadership team, school counselors create a school culture of success for all.
 
Responsibilities
  • The school counselor is expected to play an active role in the school improvement process, aligning data-driven systemic counseling program goals with the school goals
  • The elementary school counselor works as a leader and collaborator in the school to provide academic, personal, social, and life skills development opportunities that are necessary for student success and lifelong learning
  • The approach of the school counselor should be preventative and proactive in nature
  • Serve as part of the school leadership team and work with the team to develop plans to address school goals and challenges in working towards meeting those goals
  • Be an active leader in the school, contribute to the development and implementation of the school improvement plan
  • Counseling data projects need to align with and support school work plan goals
  • Support Tiered intervention including academics, attendance and behavior
  • Work with school leadership to create, and facilitate an intervention program to address issues within the school environment including, Child Assistance Team, Attendance Interventions, etc
  • Work with school leadership to implement a College and Career Readiness School Counseling Program Model at the school site
  • Collaborative Classroom Instruction for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is developed based on targeted gaps and identified needs
  • Administrators will assist the counselor to ensure that this is delivered in collaboration with the classroom teacher and behavior coach who can then reinforce the skills and lessons delivered
  • The counselor will support Tier 1 instructions, provide Tier 2 small group re-teaching and work with Tier 3 ChAT to ensure that individualized needs are met for students as needed
  • School counselor is available for responsive services as needed and is able to collaborate with school and outside resources to meet student needs as identified
  • Counselor should always be made available as a first priority for any crisis support request
  • Writing crisis plans and working with appropriate intervention staff to help students in crisis
  • Following up with students and families to make sure students in crisis are safe
  • Implement and provide as needed groups for identified needs: bullying, grief, transitions, mental needs (SEL), divorce, etc
  • Coordinate referrals to our onsite therapist and work with the therapist to provide services to students that need interventions or provide outside resources to families who choose to get help outside of school
  • All 5th grade and 8th grade students will participate in a Parent/Student Individualized meeting with a focus on next step planning
  • This includes the transition to middle school and high school with an introduction to college and career planning and course selection for High School
  • Collaborate with school staff to reach all students
  • Alignment with the feeder JR. High school to collaborate for effective transitions to secondary programs
  • Schedule visits for students and help students create a transition plan for both 6th grade and 9th grade
 
Qualifications
  • Successful candidates must have a Masters degree in School Counseling and be eligible for the Utah School Counselor License or obtain one by July 1 of the coming school year
  • Meets the state certification/licensure standards
  • Minimum of 1 year of school counseling or teaching experience
  • Understanding and familiarity with computer applications and word processing functions
  • Must pass a background check
