Colorado State University Position Title: Lead Mentor
Duration of Employment: August 2023 through May 2024
Hours: 10 hours/week
Supervisor: Melissa Henke, Coordinator, Fostering Success Program

Position Overview:
As part of the Collaborative for Student Achievement’s Outreach and Support Programs team, the Fostering Success Program is seeking 6 FSP Educate Tomorrow Peer Mentors and/or Lead Mentors. The role of the Lead Mentor is to provide peer–to–peer mentoring to a caseload of 15-20 freshman and new transfer FSP students. The Mentor offers guidance and support with the goal of helping independent students overcome academic and/or personal challenges that arise so that they remain enrolled at CSU, increase life skills, and graduate from CSU. Mentors accomplish this through direct weekly contact with mentees and by leading and facilitating group activities. Lead Mentors additionally provide guidance and support to new Peer Mentors.

This Educate Tomorrow Peer Mentoring program is a partnership between FSP at CSU and the Educate Tomorrow organization based in Miami, FL. The Lead Mentor is a CSU student hourly employee who is supervised by the Senior Coordinator of the Fostering Success Program. 

Qualifications of Lead Mentors:
·      Demonstrated successful experience as a FSP Educate Tomorrow Peer Mentor
·      Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at time of application
·      Demonstrated connection to current mentees through mentor responsibilities
·      Demonstrated willingness to learn and grow though the position
·      Possess a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and professionalism
·      Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and effectively manage time to fulfill responsibilities of this position and meet the needs of mentees
·      Must maintain a high energy level and enthusiasm when working with students
·      Desire to share from personal FSP Educate Tomorrow Mentoring experiences as appropriate
·      Strong communication skills and ability to facilitate group discussions


Job Responsibilities:
·      Be available for drop-in and scheduled one-on-one peer mentoring meetings with mentees to discuss goal setting, strengths and areas for growth, life opportunities and challenges, and campus/community resource referrals.
·      Assist students new to CSU with their personal and academic adjustment through study skills assistance, time management tips, and conflict resolution skills.
·      Communicate with mentees on a weekly basis via e-mail, phone, face-to-face contacts, and social media regarding academic progress and event and workshop opportunities.
·      Facilitate FSP First Connections activities the week before fall classes begin to welcome and get to know new FSP students.
·      Serve as a role model for new Peer Mentors by facilitating select weekly trainings. Attend weekly trainings with Mentors and Fostering Success Coordinator, participating in providing peer insight for effective interventions.
·      Develop and coordinate at least one group social event with the focus of building community among Fostering Success Program students.
·      Enter meeting notes with mentees in Navigate system.
·      Uphold appropriate boundaries and take corrective action when needed.
·      Assist with various duties as assigned relating to the support and success of FSP Educate Tomorrow mentees.

Hourly Pay Rate: $16.50 per hour.

Start Date: The week before classes begin for Fall 2023 (August 14th, 2023).
