Position Title: Bonneville Lock and Dam Natural Resource Stewards
 
Position Summary:
Bonneville Lock and Dam is recruiting two (2) AmeriCorps members beginning mid-June 2023. The Army Corps of Engineers is currently recruiting for a position that will support Natural Resources Management at Army Corps Lands at Bonneville Lock and Dam Project.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
Major duties are related to assisting personnel in recreation and natural resource management and related activities at the Bonneville Lock and Dam Project. The member will assist in the following: 40% natural resource maintenance and conservation projects, which will consist of invasive species removal, 20% trails monitoring and vegetation management along 5 miles of trail, 25% wildlife survey, 10% of the member’s time is dedicated to interpretation and outreach and 5% native plant establishment in support of the national pollinator initiatives.

The members will report daily to the Army Corps office at Bonneville Lock and Dam Interstate 84, exit 40, Auditorium Building, Ranger Office. Incumbents must arrange their own transportation to and from the office.

All work under this Statement of Work shall be performed in accordance with EM 385-1-1, "U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual," and FED-OSHA regulations. EM 385-1-1 can be downloaded from: http://www.hq.usace.army.mil/soh/hqusace_soh.htm
 
Required Qualifications:
·        Current Driver’s License
·        Willingness to submit to a government background survey
·        Good written and verbal communication skills and a positive attitude
·        Ability to work outdoors in remote settings and inclement weather on uneven ground
·        Willingness to work independently in an outdoor setting
·        Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs
 
Desired Qualifications:
·        Knowledge of Northwest natural resources and plants.
·        Coursework in biology and strong interest in biology and conservation
·        Previous experience using GPS units and ArcView GIS
·        Must be comfortable riding in and working from a boat
·        Knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Word

 
Duty Location:
Intern will report daily to the Auditorium Building’s Ranger office at Bonneville Lock and Dam. Incumbent must arrange their own transportation to and from the office. Public transportation opportunities are limited. 
 
 
 
 
Terms of Employment:
The AmeriCorps members will complete a term of service (length dependent on commitment of hours), starting mid-June through mid-September. The member must complete a minimum of 480 service hours by the end of their term. The member will receive a 30-minute lunch each day and this lunch break does not count towards AmeriCorps member service hours. Training will not exceed 20% of total member service hours.

 
Program Benefits:
$7,680 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis and a $1,718.25 education award upon completion of the 480 hours of service.
 
The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check.
