Orientation Coordinator   

Description: The Engineering Success Center (ESC) in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering (WSCOE) provides the first level of support to undergraduate engineering students. The Engineering Success Center is home to the assessment, recruitment, retention, scholarships, Open Option advising, middle/high school outreach, career readiness, and engineering programs dedicated to serving underrepresented populations for the WSCOE. In addition, the ESC staff also works with the Office of Orientation and Transition Programs to facilitate WSCOE New Student Orientation and Advising.  

 

The Orientation Coordinator will have exposure to a broad range of student affairs responsibilities within the context of an academic college. This position can also be tailored to satisfy a practicum requirement.  

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Assist with the training of undergraduate student staff. 
  • Assist with the supervision, scheduling and coordination of undergraduate student staff. 
  • Connection and interaction with WSCOE faculty, staff, students and families. 
  • Opportunity to shadow WSCOE Academic Advisors. 
  • Assist with the planning, organization, and facilitation of multiple Ram Orientation advising and registration sessions. 
  • Assist with the presentation of advising session content within both in-person and virtual settings. 
  • Work with Ram Orientation staff to create a welcoming environment for incoming students and their respective family members and guests. 
  • Opportunity to work on a specific project of their choice if so desired. 
  • Work autonomously on projects.  
  • Ram Orientation will be hosted both in-person and virtually for Summer 2024, therefore some responsibilities will take place using Zoom, MS Teams and/or via email. 

Qualifications:  

  • Must be a currently enrolled graduate student in an Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, Engineering or similar program. 
  • Must have strong communication and presentation skills. 
  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to demonstrate creative problem-solving skills and novel approaches to challenges. 
  • Desire to learn and grow as a student and professional. 
  • Experience working with STEM or Engineering students preferred, but not required. 
  • Required: Must be able to attend all-staff trainings on May 13th, 15th, and 16th. 

Position Timeframe: May 13 – August 2; flexible time off 

Compensation:  

  • 20-40 hours per week at a pay rate of $20 per hour
