Paid Summer Civil Engineering Internship
School Requirements
- Enrolled as a full-time student in a Civil Engineering program.
- Entering Junior or Senior year within a four- or five-year program.
Duration
- 12-week full time (40hrs/wk) commitment
- Part-time work during school year to be discussed at end of summer.
Responsibilities – (Estimated Schedule for First Summer of Employment)
- AutoCAD Civil 3D Training – (1 week)
- Redlines/Site Layout – (7 weeks)
- Construction Observation/Inspection – (1 week)
- Field Surveys – (1 week)
- Environmental Site Visits – (1 week)
- Drainage Design – (1 week)
- Career Path Direction – (3 meetings)
By the end of summer Interns should be able to:
- Read, interpret, and critique civil site construction plans.
- Update construction plans in AutoCAD as directed by marked-up PDF plans.
- Explain safety procedures on a construction site, translate construction details to field conditions, and evaluate as-built and design conditions of finished site.
- Setup survey robotic total station equipment, understand purpose of basic survey instruments, and understand survey monuments.
- Delineate small drainage basins, determine peak flow rates, and calculate capacity of drainage elements.
- Explain the aspects of a career in the land development industry as a civil engineer and how company size/type and personal strengths impact career development.
