Marketing and Brand Promotions Intern

Department description:  

The College of Business Marketing and Communications team is responsible for a wide array of College efforts. These efforts include but are not limited to branded item ordering, writing stories and social media posts on College news and events, email communications to internal and external audiences and event messaging and promotion.

What you’ll learn: 

Use the skills you’re learning in class to assist a real-world marketing department. In this position, you’ll learn the ins and outs of ensuring an organization brand is properly presented on promotional materials such as T-shirts, water bottles and all promotional materials. You will also independently work on tasks that help you understand the logistics and back-end of running a brand. This position will be deeply engaged in the branded promotional items process from beginning to end and will learn how to effectively track projects, manage time, and inventory and communicate clearly. You will assist with creating the College’s annual online store, which is released to all College employees. 

Between supporting promotional efforts, you’ll be helping the team with general administrative items such as event logistics and tracking through Excel spreadsheets. In addition, you’ll learn how a marketing department functions within a large organization. If you’re a go-getter with great customer service skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to follow through, this position is the right fit for you.

Job Responsibilities 

We are looking for a student to assist in the strategic position and promotion of the College of Business brand to capture the attention of our target audiences. You will support the Brand Operations Coordinator. 

Branded Item Support

  • Monitor requests for branded items and respond in a timely manner (PA)
  • Place orders and work with vendors on processing, including payment and delivery (VWC)
  • Work with senior designer to ensure all items adhere to brand standards (IT)
  • Work with team leadership to ensure brand is accurately positioned for messaging and presentation (CT/PS)
  • Promptly and clearly communicate with customers throughout ordering process while ensuring key stakeholders are aware of holistic project progress (VWC)
  • Lead efforts for Employee Online store, including vendor communication, product selection, store buildout and sample procurement and management (CD, VMC, L)
  • Assist in management and upkeep of the internal promotional website maintenance (DP, L)
  • Evaluate and process gift bag requests (PA, DP)
  • Monitor branded item inventory and restock as needed (PA, DP)
  • Distribute branded materials (including magazines) in key College areas Eg) Rockwell North lobby, Dean’s Office, Undergraduate areas, etc. (PA, L)

Team Support

  • General administrative support as needed (including but not limited to event planning, preparation of event/presentation materials, file cleanup and maintenance, office/storage space organization and upkeep) (PA)
  • Pull and maintain monthly reports on Inventory levels and brand operations project requests (PA, DP)
  • Establish and maintain positive, productive relationships with internal stakeholders, team members and external vendors (PA, GC, IT)
  • Strategize for marketing and promotional activities for the College’s brand (C, DP,L)

Skills and Qualifications 

  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Understanding of branding and logo management
  • Self-starter who is motivated and punctual with a good work ethic
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks in response to a dynamic environment
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Work in a goal driven environment and perform all tasks within the defined timeline
  • Think analytically from different perspectives to forecast and plan accordingly
  • Great written and verbal communication skills and the ability to take direction/criticism when needed

Hourly Wage: $14.42/hour

Preference: One to two years of experience working in a professional office in paid or unpaid roles.
