Facility/Horse Care - Equine Teaching and Research Center - Fort Collins

This student hourly position provides care and maintenance of horses and facilities utilized by the CSU Dept. of Animal Sciences/Equine Sciences program at the Equine Teaching and Research Center in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Hours average at 20-30 hours per week including but not limited to weekends and holidays.

Immediate start preferred.

Must be available for emergency or “on call” and special events.

Provides facility cleaning, arena maintenance, care and maintenance based upon facility usage and necessary conditions for clientele.

Experience needed in caring for horses including feeding, providing housing, monitoring general health and providing basic veterinary care, blanketing horses, leading, walking, and evaluating horses for lameness, vices, or other unwanted conditions. Previous work experience at an equestrian boarding or training facility, equine veterinarian hospital, or equine assisted services center is preferred.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds approximately twice per day.

Ability to work in inclement weather, including dust, moist, hot and cold conditions.

DUTIES:

Provides care for ETRC horses to include feeding, watering, blanketing, wound management and well-being checks of program horses. Loads/unloads hay, grain and other feed and bedding, as needed. Provides security and cleanliness of facility, including locking and unlocking facility’s entrance gate and facility doors, cleans stalls and overall facility. Operation of heavy equipment such as skid steer and tractor utilized for dragging arenas, cleaning pens, etc.

Hourly pay rate is $14.42-$15.00/hour.
