Undergraduate Research Assistant- Thermochemical Conversion
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering is searching for a motivated undergraduate student to support a Department of Energy Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management project for conversion of algae to high-value products. Work will be focused on operation and maintenance of a benchtop thermochemical reactor.
Student should be expected to work 10-15 hours per week at the Powerhouse Energy Campus during the spring semester.
Job Duties:
- Performing and monitoring reactions in a high-temperature, high-pressure benchtop reactor
- Disassembling and re-assembling benchtop reactor
- Coordinating with project partners to send and receive materials
- Cleaning and maintaining workspace
- Compiling and sharing experimental data with project team
Required job qualifications:
- Junior or senior in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering
- Maintain at least a 3.2 GPA
- A passing grade or current enrollment with good standing in CBE 320 (Chemical and Biological Reactor Design) and CBE 332 (Heat and Mass Transfer Fundamentals) or equivalent courses will be considered
Preferred qualifications:
- Student within the department of Chemical and Biological Engineering or related field
- Basic laboratory experience
