CSU Hydraulics Laboratory 

 

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University (Fort Collins) invites applicants for a Laboratory Assistant position at the Engineering Research Center Hydraulics Laboratory. 

 

Background

The Colorado State University Hydraulics Laboratory (www.hydraulicslab.engr.colostate.edu) seeks to hire Laboratory Assistants. This position would provide support for multiple research projects. Research conducted in the Hydraulics Laboratory includes hydraulic model studies, hydraulic performance testing and research in the fields of open channel and closed conduit hydraulics. The following lists various types of studies undertaken: 

 

  • Scour and sediment transport studies
  • Channel stability of rivers
  • River diversion structures
  • Full-scale erosion control performance
  • Spillways
  • Outlet works
  • Embankment and dam foundation erosion
  • Energy dissipaters

 

The Hydraulics Lab is an industrial environment. This position will be exposed to constant or intermittent sounds and in proximity to moving, mechanical parts. Physical demands include the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Candidate also must have ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach.  

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Undergrad student enrolled at Colorado State University
  • Up to 40 hours per week during summer
  • 10- 20 hours per week

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • Civil and Environmental Engineering/Construction Management Student
  • Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Student
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with a wide range of hand and power tools
  • Experience with use of heavy equipment

 

Responsibilities: 

 

The successful candidate will be a member of the Hydraulics Laboratory and will be responsible for: 

 

  • Assisting research activities
  • Assist in constructing and operating physical hydraulic models
  • Data collection and entry
  • Laboratory maintenance and upkeep

 

Compensation: Range $17.00 - $20.00 per hour depending upon experience
