Job Description:
The Photo Area Lab Monitor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and safety of the Photography facilities. They are responsible for assisting students and maintaining the darkroom area, computer lab, and lighting studio. They will assist in special projects assigned by the Area Coordinator. Must be a Photo Major. Evening and weekend hours preferred. This position requires the work to be performed in-person, 10-20 hours per week.
Job duties/responsibilities:
General Duties
- Responsible for maintaining vigilance at all times for the safety and well-being of students and facilities.
- Responsible for maintaining the facilities.
- Provides students with technical assistance with their projects. Must be cordial and friendly with the students they are assisting.
- Enforces all lab policies and report any problems to the Area Coordinator.
- Encourages and assists in keeping the facilities clean and orderly. Conserve resources by turning off lights, water, equipment, etc. when not needed.
- Must be reliable and responsible (notify Area Coordinator of absence or lateness).
- Reports broken equipment to Area Coordinator
- Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Daily Duties
- Check the chemistry in 5gallon containers and in darkroom and refill accordingly
- Setup and tear down Darkroom for student use
- Clean up Photo Area and Lighting Studio, throws away any trash, wipes down sinks and spills, put left-behind-items in lost & found, clear sink areas.
- Turn off printers, sinks, and lights at end of night
- Check out/in equipment to/from students, making sure that forms are filled out correctly
- Assist students with any questions they have about printing analog or digitally, developing film, and using the lighting studio
Weekly Duties
- Run nozzle check on printers
- Check chemistry and ink inventory and let Area Coordinator know if anything needs to be replaced
Required Skills:
- Art Major.
- Must be friendly, helpful, reliable and respectful.
- Must be able to follow instructions well.
Preferred Skills:
- Previous experience preferred, but not required
Work Study: This is a work-study position; applicant must be eligible for work-study to apply.
Hourly Pay Rate: $14.81
