Summer Student Worker: Maryland Genuine Progress Intern (2 Vacancies)
Part-Time: 35 hours per week.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites eligible candidates to apply for an internship with the Chesapeake and Coastal Service. This opportunity will provide hands-on experience in the field of ecological economics and systems ecology.

Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to update the Maryland Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI), an alternative measure of societal well-being that is maintained by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources for the state. This will require learning about this indicator, how it is calculated and why the different components, like income inequality, ecosystem services, and social costs and benefits are included. The job will require working with the GPI calculation spreadsheets and creating narrative descriptions of the changes observed in the calculation for inclusion on the GPI website (dnr.maryland.gov/mdgpi/Pages/default.aspx). The internship will also provide opportunities for learning about other work at Maryland Department of Natural Resource field, such as participation in field data collection.
The internship runs 10 weeks between early June and mid-August. The specific start/end dates, hours, and schedule will be determined in collaboration between the intern and supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant must be a current college student, undergraduate or graduate level. A GPA of 2.5 or above is required for academic credit.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of college level courses in ecology, macro-economics, natural resources/environment economics, or ecological economics.
Familiarity with Microsoft excel and Google Sheets.
