Engineering Thematic Community Live-In Staff
The goal of the Engineering Thematic Community (ETC) is to assist students with the development of their Engineering identity by helping them establish relationships in community with other engineers, by supporting their academic and social development, as well as helping them to practice good citizenship within the ETC and greater campus community.
The Engineering Thematic Community (ETC) is an intentionally designed living-learning program developed to support and assist Engineering students with their transition to the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering, as well as their overall transition to Colorado State University. The ETC consists of all students living in Academic Village – Engineering Hall (coed) and one floor of Edwards Hall (one male identifying hall and one female identifying hall).
The purpose of the Engineering Thematic Community Live-In position is to assist Residence Life staff and facilitate student success through events & activities. An ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, a passion for helping students be successful, experience working with diverse student populations, as well as experience with or an interest in STEM.
Remuneration
- 1-bedroom apartment (521 sq ft) including kitchen, living room, bathroom & bedroom, within the Engineering Thematic Community (Academic Village – Engineering) for subsidized cost ($660/month)
- Equivalent pay for subsidized apartments is $22 per hour.
Job Duties
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the coordination of various aspects of the ETC including but not limited to: planning & organizing events & activities with different engineering student organizations, residential staff & CSU community programs.
- Creating and facilitating workshops/programs on key topics related to student success
- Collaborating and supporting students from a holistic perspective
- Assisting with the Common- First Year Program Mentorship & Tutoring Programs
- Assisting the WSCOE Engagement & Retention Coordinator with student and program assessment and development
- Serve as a support system for engineering community members & the greater engineering college community
- Completion of other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- For Graduate Students: Successful admission and acceptance into a graduate program at Colorado State University
- For Undergraduate Students: Successful completion of two years in engineering undergraduate programs
- Interest and knowledge in student development and issues related to student retention
- Detail-oriented
- Excellent computer, written and oral communication skills
- Proven organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to build rapport and connect with students, faculty, and staff
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate or Upperclassman Undergraduate students in the Walter Scott, Jr., College of Engineering
- Prior mentoring or academic coaching experience
- Prior experience in a supervisory role
- Knowledge of campus resources available to assist students
- STEM background or experience working with STEM students/programs
- Demonstrated ability to manage and balance academics and work responsibilities
Terms of Employment
- Average of 8-10 hours worked per week
- Must be a graduate or undergraduate upperclassman student in good academic standing at Colorado State University (enrolled in at least 9 hours each long semester)
- All candidates must be accepted into their program for graduate applicants
- 2.5 GPA or higher
