The mission of KCSU is to teach students to collaboratively operate a radio station that offers audio & multi-media education by providing hands-on learning experiences that amplify student voices to create content informing and inspiring our listeners.
KCSU is looking for students interested in learning by doing and gaining knowledge through experience. Interested applicants are not expected to know everything about journalism, broadcasting, or radio equipment.
Station Manager Position Overview: 90.5 KCSU-FM (Fort Collins) serves as a focal point for student self-expression and media skill building at Colorado State University by providing an important forum for music, news, sports, and entertainment to a wide listening audience. The Station Manager is the face of KCSU, representing, supporting, and guiding more than 70 KCSU staff members and volunteers.
KCSU staff management includes setting staff priorities, managing employee salaries, monitoring employee fulfillment of respective job descriptions and applying disciplinary action when necessary. The Station Manager creates an organization that values inclusion and participation through regular action-oriented meetings with volunteers and staff. Additional responsibilities include:
- Facilitating collaborative efforts between KCSU and other RMSMC Departments
- Learning/understanding KCSU’s core technical operations sufficiently to teach others.
- Acting and responding quickly to broadcast emergencies.
- Working with the Program Director to ensure that KCSU maintains a clear distinction between information (news reports) and expressions of opinion (DJ personalities).
- Exploring new outlets/initiatives that reach college students, with a focus on audio and music.
All KCSU positions pay $15 an hour, with hours varying between departments/positions.
- The Station Manager works 20 hours per week during the 2025-26 academic year, including 10 weeks in the summer before the academic year begins. Accommodation can be made for students who do not reside in Fort Collins during the summer.
- The Station Manager works with the KCSU General Manager to hire all KCSU student directors and help delegate hours per position/department.
- All KCSU staff positions must either be a CSU, Front Range, or local high school/college student enrolled for at least one credit hour.
Supervision given and received: The Station Manager supervises the KCSU Staff and their subsidiaries including Programming, DJs and volunteers.
- The General Manager acts as the adviser to the Station Manager, and, in conjunction with the Station Manager, is the supervisor to the Broadcast Engineer and Development Director.
Rocky Mountain Student Media’s Mission:
- Providing CSU students with hands-on, real-world training to develop the skills needed for successful post-college careers.
- Delivering news, entertainment, and engaging content to the CSU and Fort Collins communities.
