Career Resource Specialist (Front Desk)

Career Center Student Ambassadors represent the office's mission through exceptional guest engagement both in and out of the Career Center while also completing mission-critical tasks during front desk shifts. Student staff are expected to fully support the Career Center’s mission and philosophy.   

Specialized Job Areas; Opportunities for Development & Growth 

As student staff progress in their positions, there is a chance to develop specialization in a particular Career Center functional area: technology support, outreach, marketing & communications, career education, experiential learning, employer relations. 

Starting Hourly Pay Rate: $16.15/hour

Anticipated Start Date: August 20th, 2025 (this is the week before classes start to be used for training purposes)

Anticipated Weekly Hours: 8 – 15, mostly during 8 am – 5 pm 

Anticipated Work Location  

In person at the Career Center.

Required Job Qualifications 

  • Commitment to developing skills to engage with Career Center visitors; and must be dependable (i.e., arrive on time to scheduled shifts)
  • Must have basic computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity and inclusion.
  • Students with a work-study award.

 Preferred Job Qualifications 

  • Experience with customer service

Essential Duties 

  • Welcome guests into the Career Center and engage in-person at the front desk and on the telephone, communicating through the website’s chat function and general email, scheduling appointments, assisting with daily operations, and supporting Career Center staff.
  • Shape the experience of each guest by building peer-to-peer relationships.
  • Problem-solve questions for students, employers, and on-campus partners, including using Handshake.
  • Respond to and triage emails and Handshake messages from students, employers, and on-campus partners.
  • Staff events and actively promote the Career Center through multiple channels, including outreach fairs, Plaza promotion, email, social media and deliver presentations throughout the CSU campus community to educate on how students and alums can engage with our office and utilize our services.
  • Input, manage, and maintain data, spending time in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel), and approve Handshake requests (both for users and jobs).
  • Engage in regular coaching meetings with your project manager and supervisor scheduled around academic commitments.
  • Participate in staff and career development trainings and activities provided by the Career Center.
