Position Summary: The position will be responsible for training and guiding new employees and will act as a shift supervisor to student team members at all times. The position will exhibit leadership skills and direct task training at all times and will become an expert in all aspects of the operation. Overall job duties include performing a variety of unsupervised supportive food service work including, but not limited to: making salads, dishing desserts, preparing main courses, serving food, loading and checking dishware, delivering food and operating all food service equipment such as deep fryers, char/steam grills, steamers, ovens, slicers, grinders, etc. The position will act in a professional supervisory role and as a role model to all fellow employees at all times. 

Upon successful hiring into this position, Supervisors must complete all required courses for Student Supervisors. These trainings include: RDS Hospitality, Workplace Safety, Food Safety, and Difficult Conversations as well as the State Food Handler Course & Exam. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

1.Residential Dining Services or general food service experience.

2.Completion of all required Student Leadership courses for Student Supervisors (can be completed upon hiring).

Conditions of Employment:

 1. Completion of all required Student Leadership courses for Student Supervisors within 3 months of employment. 

2. Completion of the State Food Handler Course & Exam within 3 months of employment. 

3. Completion of Supervisor in Training Course for respective Dining Center. 

4. Currently enrolled in a higher education degree-seeking program

Essential Duties: 

Training Student Team Members – 50% 

1. Train Student Team Members actively through physical and verbal instruction on operations of the building and supervise those employees at all times.

 2. Train Student Team Members on the importance of allergen awareness and understand how to inform guests of which allergens are in the food that we serve. 

Supervisory Management – 30% 

3. Ensure high-quality customer service, i.e. answering questions, resolving complaints, working at all times to exceed the expectations of the customer. Work as a problem solver at all times. 

4. Ensure compliance with all food safety & sanitation guidelines including building, equipment, and chemical safety. 

5. Ensure adherence to all health safety protocols for food safety workers as described by the University 

6. Maintain professionalism as a supervisor and act as a role model for fellow workers. 

7. Possess and exhibit a thorough knowledge of departmental policies applicable to hourly employees.

 8. Ensure compliance with all hourly policies, procedures and guidelines in the hourly employee handbook. 

9. Communicate effectively with supervisors and peers while promoting a positive work environment. 

10. Attend all mandatory training sessions and meetings. 

11. Understand and follow Colorado State University policies, including the Principles of Community. 

12. Identify performance of Student Team Members, track and record, and provide coachable moments to those members. Elevate hourly employee performance issues to Management team. 

Daily Building Operations – 20% 

13. Work closely with full time staff and supervisors to ensure daily schedule meets requirements to accomplish all operational tasks in a timely fashion. Assign duties to team members, check in with them and ensure completion of daily tasks. 

14. Meet daily scheduling requirements including working a minimum of 20 hours per week and specified shifts as described by the manager, including actively participating in dining special events

 Uniform: 

• Green CSU Dining Services polo shirt will be issued by the employer to be worn on every shift.

 • Aprons, face mask and nametags are to be worn. 

• Solid color pants are to be worn at all working times. 

• Long hair must be pulled back away from the face and off the shoulders by an approved hair. restraint (hairnet, employer-issued baseball hats). 

• If the employee wishes to keep a beard, a hairnet must be worn at all times 

• It is the responsibility of the employee to keep the uniform in a clean, acceptable appearance.
