POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: ENcourage Engineering Math Tutor

The Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering's (WSCOE) ENcourage Engineering Math Program is a summer program intended to help incoming engineering students who need to review their math skills before taking the math placement tool. Students who take advantage of this program will learn and review algebra, trigonometry, and logarithmic & exponential functions. 

ENcourage Engineering Math Tutors will work to teach and mentor incoming CSU engineering students for a maximum of 5 hours per week from about June 1-August 15, 2025. ENcourage tutors will have set weekly times when they are available for appointment-based sessions with incoming students who need math help. All tutoring sessions are by appointment and will be held virtually. ENcourage tutors will be paid for the time they spend in scheduled tutoring sessions and for time spent prior to June 1 setting up their employment, reviewing previously prepared math content, and attending ENcourage tutor training.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Proven success in engineering math classes (3.0+ GPA) at CSU
  • Declared engineering major in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering
  • Able to commit to defined, weekly hours during the employment period (can be evening)

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Scott Scholar (recipient of the Walter Scott, Jr. Undergraduate Scholarship)

Essential Duties and Expectations

  • Professionally communicate with and respond to ENcourage Program via email, phone, text, or in-person, in a timely manner
  • Work up to 4 hours/week teaching math concepts to incoming students
  • Attend required trainings
  • Connect periodically with the ENcourage Program coordinators
  • Provide feedback on the program at the end of the employment period
  • Submit work hours using CSU's Time Clock Plus system in a timely manner and according to the bi-weekly pay period schedule
