Fiber Characterization Intern

We currently seek a Fiber Characterization Intern to help support Lightera Laboratories in our Somerset, NJ location.  Lightera Laboratories is pursuing new product development in fiber optics for sensing and medical devices.  As part of this work, characterization of next generation fiber optics is required.  Lightera Laboratories is seeking a summer intern interested in a mix of hands on lab work, lab automation, and data analysis.  The intern will assist Lighter Laboratories researchers in building test setups and using these to characterize new fiber components. The successful intern candidate will have demonstrated solid analytical abilities, initiative, and hands on experience in courses or other lab settings.   

  

 

 

Key qualifications: 

 

Currently working toward a degree in a science or engineering-related field 

Familiarity with optics 

Familiarity with programming languages such as C or python 

Lab experience with optics preferred   

Passion and motivation to solve problems  

Exceptional documentation skills   

Effective written and verbal communication skills    

Flexibility to adapt to change   

Effective communication skills   

Proficiency with MS Office Teams, Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, and Excel   

Discretion when working with confidential and proprietary information   

 

 

 

Essential duties and responsibilities: 

  

Assist Lightera Laboratories researchers in building test setups and using these to characterize new fiber components 

Set up and align optics mechanics 

Acquire and analyze data 

Provide a final report-out presentation on project results
