Part-Time IT Support Specialist

Organization Overview:
We are a collaborative, research-driven organization focused primarily on emerging technologies and renewable energy. We are seeking a reliable and tech-savvy IT Support Specialist to provide day-to-day technical support and assist with maintaining secure and efficient IT operations.

Position Summary:
The IT Support Specialist will serve as the first line of support for technical issues across the organization. This role involves troubleshooting hardware and software problems, assisting with onboarding and offboarding, managing user accounts, and supporting compliance and security processes under the guidance senior staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide timely technical support to staff for issues related to computers, printers, video conferencing, and software applications.

Assist in the setup, configuration, and support of Google Workspace (G Suite) accounts, Microsoft Entra identities, and QuickBooks Online user access.

Support IT onboarding and offboarding procedures, including provisioning and deprovisioning user accounts.

Maintain inventory of IT equipment and assist with basic maintenance or coordination of repairs.

Help implement cybersecurity best practices, such as applying updates, managing two-factor authentication, and supporting backup and endpoint protection solutions.

Escalate more complex issues to senior staff or external vendors when needed.

Document common troubleshooting procedures and contribute to internal IT knowledge base.

Qualifications:

1+ years of experience in an role that includes IT support or help desk work, preferably in a small organization or academic/research setting.

Familiarity with:

  • Google Workspace (G Suite)
  • Microsoft Entra (formerly Azure AD)
  • Microsoft 365
  • QuickBooks Online (basic account or access support)

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.

Experience supporting remote and hybrid work environments.

Comfortable working independently and prioritizing tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

Basic understanding of cybersecurity hygiene and IT compliance practices.

Knowledge of Windows operating systems.

Availability for occasional on-site work in Alexandria, VA.

Time Commitment:
Approximately 8–15 hours per week, with flexible scheduling.

Compensation:
Hourly pay commensurate with experience and industry standards.
